Green peas soup
I am into a having lots of soup mode. I am that person who prefers repetitive food since it keeps my planning simple. In essence, if you see my soups they are all quite similar in terms of the base – garlic, onion, carrot, celery and then build stuff on top of that.
Frozen grean peas soup is something I tried a while back & loved it. But never got around to blogging it because I never took step wise pictures. Off late, I am stopping to beat myself up aka wait for stepwise pics day to upload a particular recipe on to a blog because sometimes that just doesn’t seem to happen. So off late, I put recipes up and then update them later with stepwise pics whenever I repeat it later on. Somehow, the pressure that way seems very less on my head :D.
I have a big bowl of soup as my brekkie (lasts me 2-2.5 hours). I am a sucker for soups so this works for me. I prepare my soups the previous night & so I don’t spend time in the morning making it :D. Fresh me vs Fresh soup any day :D.
On a personal front, Adya is having his hands around my neck watching some rhymes on TV and brushing his feet against my legs. Moments like these I be an idiot sometimes where instead of just soaking up such cute stuff, I wonder when he will become that kid who wouldn’t wanna be hugged/ kissed by parents :(. I know that phase will come but I am so not ready for it! Are there any other mad people like me who can relate to this thought of mine? I will be happy with some mad company :D.
- 1/3 cup frozen peas
- 1 small onion
- 1/4 no carrot
- 1/2 no celery stick
- 1 no bay leaf
- 3 nos cloves
- 10-15 nos black pepper corns
- 3/4 tsp rock salt
- 1.5 cups water
- 1 tsp olive oil
-
Prep work – Dunk 1/3c frozen peas in a bowl of water. Roughly chop onion, carrot, celery and garlic pods.
-
In a small pressure cooker, heat 1t olive oil. Once hot, add 1 bay leaf, 3 cloves, 10-15 black pepper corns. Saute for a few seconds.
-
Throw in the garlic & saute till it starts to change colour.
-
Add the onions & saute till it just starts to change colour.
-
At this stage, add the carrot & celery. Give it a quick mix.
-
Add the frozen peas (not the water), 1.5 cups water, 3/4t rock salt.
-
Pressure cook for 4 whistles. Turn off heat and let the pressure naturally release.
-
Open the cooker and take out the bay leaf & cloves. Then, blend everything together using a hand blender.
-
Check & adjust salt and that's it, you soup is ready to be served hot!
- If you are completely out of time, don’t even bother with the sauteing bit initially. Put everything in the list (of course you can skip the olive oil in this case) in a pressure cooker & just enjoy :D.
- I love celeries in soup. It adds a whole awesome flavour to soups but if you don’t have it, that’s fine.
- You can add 1/2t garam masala instead of the bay leaf/ cloves even. I just like the taste of whole spices always.
